Weekend treats: England must win:

Do you remember Petter Northug’s meeting with Erling Braut Haaland after the last Nations League meeting? Watch it in the video window at the top!

After the Nations League was established in 2018, football supporters have been able to enjoy regular matches during the national team breaks.

Already from tonight you can help yourself to the weekend’s cold buffet.

There you will find simple starters such as Moldova against North Macedonia and Estonia against Malta from 18.00.

For main course and dessert there is far more to choose from. On Friday you can enjoy Italy against England, as well as the surprise team Hungary against Germany.

In sensational fashion, Hungary have taken the lead in the group after beating England twice. That includes a humiliating 4-0 win on English soil.

This forces England to deliver this collection, if they are to have the opportunity to assert themselves in the Nations League. At the time of writing, Gareth Southgate’s men are facing relegation to Pool B.

– This is Jude Bellingham’s chance. I have no doubt that he will be central to the World Cup, but these two Nations League matches are his perfect opportunity to break out in full bloom, says former national team player Micah Richards to the Daily Mail.

“This is his time. I have no doubts that all that he will be central to Southgate’s plans in Qatar — not just in his squad but his starting line-up for the opening match against Iran — and these two Nations League ties against Italy and Germany are the perfect opportunity to see him flourish.”

Does Haaland continue the scoring show?

On Saturday, the stage is set for the Norway match on TV 2 Direkte and Play from 17.00.

Nations League top scorer Erling Braut Haaland and the rest of Ståle Solbakken’s men will be in action away to Slovenia.

– At the moment he is the best striker in the world, said Slovania player Petar Stojanovic earlier this week.

– It won’t be easy, but I think our defense can stop Haaland again, said Gregor Sikosek during Thursday’s Slovenia press conference.

After the dream start this summer, Norway has hijacked first place in the group. With a three-point lead, the national team is poised to secure group victory. Which will mean promotion to the best company.

If that were to happen, Haaland & co. could face nations such as France and Germany in the next Nations League. A win in the group will also make it easier for Norway to qualify for the upcoming European Championship, which will be held in Germany.

On Saturday, you can also see Sweden, desperate for points, meeting Serbia in Belgrade.

The football party starts already at 15.00 and a total of nine games are played on Saturday.

Will Giroud be historic?

If you are not full after Saturday, the party continues on Sunday.

Can Olivier Giroud make history already this weekend? It depends. But the fact is that the Frenchman is only three goals away from becoming the all-time top scorer in the French national team.

After scoring his 49th goal for France on Thursday, he is seriously breathing down Thierry Henry’s neck, who stands with 51 national team goals. On Sunday, it is Denmark who must stop the power forward.

Otherwise, Sunday can offer, among other things, the Netherlands against Belgium, both of whom are fighting an intense battle to win the group.

A total of ten matches will be played on Sunday.
