Coach Robert Saleh didn’t think to bench Wilson at halftime, but they had just 66 total yards and were tied 13-3 with 3:31 left in the third quarter. He said he got rid of Wilson. By then it was 16-3. Streveler, who was promoted from the practice squad, came in just hours before the game. He quickly led the attack into the longest drive, but it fell out of the points.
Sale said he didn’t bench Wilson himself. He said he went to Strevelar hoping his running ability would ignite their dormant ground game. and left Wilson, the 2021 second overall pick, on the bench.

“We were trying to get dressed to start the run game,” Saleh said. “I know Zach was struggling. Streveler came in and he made some plays, sparked offense, played explosive. It snowballed in a good way for Strev. So we wanted to give him a chance to finish the drive.When we got it back, we decided we were already here, so let’s go with Strev.
The Jets showed signs of life in Streveler, who rushed for 54 yards in his season debut and completed 10 of 15 passes for 90 yards.

“Yeah, it’s a tough one and I’m trying to get over it,” Wilson added. Regardless, I believe in myself.”
“You would be negligent if you didn’t acknowledge the fact that confidence is there because when people are confident, they can conquer the world,” Saleh said. It has to start with coaching.”
Saleh refused to speculate about the Week 17 starter. He could go back to White (broken ribs), but he’s still not cleared for contact. If he isn’t cleared, the Jets will have a tough decision to make.
“We never saw him last,” Saleh said of Wilson.
